From Generation To Generation - January 2026
They say that every natural diamond is as unique as the person who chooses it.
The diamond business, that I know, is all about this type of emotion. It is the business of love.
When someone gives a gift that symbolises love, they visit a jeweller.
What makes a diamond an emotional gift is its’ history and origin, and just so, the correct descriptive term is ‘natural diamond’ not ‘mined diamond’.
Nicolas Chrétien, the founding member, of the World Diamond Heritage Board, speaks lyrically about diamonds, humanity and nature. He says that “What we treasure most are the things imbued with authenticity, time, and human connection…As intelligence becomes artificial and beauty becomes increasingly simulated, the rarity of what is authentically (natural) will become priceless … (he continues), of all expressions of luxury, the natural diamond is ideally positioned to craft experiences that speak across generations.”
The following words are from a World Diamond Heritage Board post:
Before us, they were here.
Born deep within the Earth one to three billion years ago.
They have seen continents drift, mountains rise, oceans vanish.
They bear no trace of time, no erosion, no hint of age.
Passed from hand to hand,
they are the greatest witnesses to humanity’s love.
They mark humanity’s most meaningful moments.
Generation after generation, name after name,
they carry our stories long after we are gone.
When fortunes disappear,
buildings crumble,
photographs fade,
names erode,
after us, they will still be here.
To remember.
A natural diamond is not just a beautiful stone.
It is a witness. A keeper. A messenger.
The hardest piece of the Earth’s memory.
Natural diamonds are humanity’s oldest heritage.
World Diamond Day will be celebrated annually starting April 8, 2026.
