Fancy Shapes; A Quick Analysis - December 2025
Let’s begin December with a quick analysis of fancy cut diamonds.
Longer fancy shapes are hot. Squarish fancies are selling at 20-25% discounts below the equivalent elongated shapes.
Marquises are currently the hottest and most expensive. Ovals are second, and according to Rapaport, ovals are trading at 5-10% premiums over pear shapes. Long radiants and cushions are strong and trading for less than marquises, ovals, and pears. I emphasize that longer shapes are commanding large premiums over square shapes.
Fancy cuts are all about face up appearance. There is no market for poorly cut fancies. Rapaport uses the word ‘illiquid’ for off-cut fancies.
Old cuts and step cuts are having a revival. I am also finding that specialty fancy shapes in unusual colours are particularly popular.
Man-made diamonds are becoming very inexpensive in both round and fancies. The price of man-made diamonds is the same for all shapes. Most retailers are a bit worried about maintaining current margins.
Looking back to the introduction of synthetic-coloured gems; synthetic gemstones took off and then cooled down when their values diminished.
At Regal Imports, we understand the worth and history of natural products. It is a truth that man-made products always lose value as technology improves, whereas natural products do not.
History demonstrates that natural products hold fascination, excitement, and attention long term. This conclusion underpins the Regal mantra “Always Natural Diamonds” … and with that, we begin this month of December with understanding, passion, and positivity!
